Building Information Modeling (BIM)
In times of change, the approach to our projects also changes. Where technology and innovation have found each other, BIM arises. BIM is not just a tool, it’s a way of working. It is actually a smart way to allow multiple parties to communicate, share information and design in the same environment; the 3D model. This way of working provides an unambiguous framework for cooperation within the project between several companies. Moreover, it creates overview in (complex) projects.
At BESA we have the in-house expertise to implement BIM within the projects and we have now developed a BIM manual to optimally guide the process.
The start of everything is performing a 0 measurement by scanning the location of the project (3D laser scan). Coordinates are then added to the location and the 0 point is determined. During the project, all drawings/models are loaded and it is checked whether there are any clashes and details. If this is the case, this is fed back to the various parties and asked to resolve the clashes or deviations. Clashes can be misaligned models, misalignment of nozzles, incorrect positions of equipment, etc.
After the renewed drawings have been delivered, they are reloaded and checked whether the clash has indeed been resolved. A 3D review is held every week with all parties involved to keep everyone informed of all developments. During these reviews, all kinds of techniques can be used (e.g. the HoloLens or VR glasses) to clarify situations.
The big advantage of this way of working is that you clearly define your design in advance, which means that there are fewer failure and unnecessary extra costs for the contractors during implementation. In addition, work is done more accurately due to multiple inspection moments, which ensures a higher quality of the design, a more manageable execution planning and fewer issues during construction!
